Condolences

by Rod Dieffenbacher

On behalf of the North Central Mustang Club I would like to express our condolences to the Robert McCormick Family. Clair F. McCormick, Bob’s Father, passed away on Saturday March 17, 2001. Clair was a guest of Susque-View Home, Lock Haven. He was a 1924 graduate of Lock Haven High School, and a graduate of Temple University of Philadelphia with a Bachelor of Science and a Degree in Business Management. Bob gets his car savvy honestly as his father owned and operated the Chrysler-Plymouth Dealership in Lock Haven from 1960 until it’s closing in 1997. Again, on behalf of the members of the NCMC: Bob, Ina, Brian, and the rest of the McCormick family, please accept our sincere condolences on your loss.

Fords at the Mall Update

by Tom Shreiner

Preparations for this year’s event are coming along quite well. Paulhamus Litho has completed the run of “full color” show flyers and they look great! Thanks go out to Ron for the first class print job and to Marcie for the great design and layout. We will have flyers at next week’s Club meeting for those members who are willing to help post them in local businesses and distribute them at upcoming shows.

The show committee got together on Tuesday night, March 27 to prepare a flyer mailing to past show participants. Several hundred flyers were mailed. Classified ads have been placed in the event sections of the following Mustang and Ford powered periodicals:

• Mustang Times
• SAAC Snake Bite
• Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords
• Mustang Monthly
• Ford Trader
• Hemmings Motor News

If you can think of any other magazine where an ad should be placed, please contact a member of the show committee. Our current focus is on getting our event listed and/or linked to as many Ford related Internet sites as we can possibly come up with. So, we are asking all members who routinely “surf” the net to e-mail any web addresses to us where we might post our event. Send to Tom Shreiner <[email protected]>.

Cobra-R's win at Daytona!

by Tom Shreiner

Mustang Cobra-R’s were out in full force during the inaugural Grand-Am Cup race held at Daytona International Speedway on February 2, 2001. Nine Cobra-R’s competed in the GS (Grand Sports) class, which contained a total of 27 cars, primarily made up of such makes as Porsche, BMW, Audi, Pontiac and Chevrolet. A total of 77 cars started the event. At the end of the race, the #88 Shelby American, Inc. Cobra-R piloted by John Shreiner of Phoenix AZ and Jeff Lapcevich of Toronto, ON found itself in the winners circle. The second place car, was the Snipes Ford Cobra-R, out of Goldsboro, NC.

John Shreiner started the race in 76th spot after some mechanical problems and rain kept the car from qualifying. Shreiner made steady progress through the field before turning the car over to co-driver Jeff Lapcevich during a mid-race caution. From there, Lapcevich cruised to victory!

The winning car was built, prepped and crewed by Shreiner Racing, LLC. The Guardsman Blue/White LeMans stripe paint/graphics scheme was designed by NCMC’s own, Marcie Cipriani. The team is also indebted to NCMC member Mike Pakoskey who attended the race and contributed heavily with his mechanical expertise.
